Permanent License vs Subscription

This page explains what a permanent (perpetual) license includes, what renewing your license means, and how it differs from a subscription. If you are not sure whether you need to renew — or why the app keeps asking you to renew — read on for all the details.

What Does a Permanent License Mean?

A permanent (perpetual) license means you own the software forever. Your software will never stop working, and it will remain fully functional even after your initial support period ends. Every license includes one full year of free software updates and technical support from the date of purchase.

After your first year, renewing your updates and support is completely optional. If you are happy with the version you currently have, you can simply ignore the notifications and keep using the software without paying anything more. Just avoid updating to newer releases, as versions released after your support period ends will not accept your license key (if you update by accident, you can always download your supported version from the old versions page).

Alternatively, if you want to keep receiving the latest software updates and customer support, you can easily extend your coverage for another year. To do this, just renew the license.

What Does Renewal Mean?

For a permanent license, renewal extends your software updates and customer support for one more year. Your software keeps working perfectly whether you choose to renew or not. If you decide not to renew, you will keep the version you currently have forever, but you will no longer receive new updates or technical support (subscriptions work differently and require renewal to stay active — see below).

If you want to renew a permanent license at the price mentioned on the website, you need to do this within a year after your included update period ends. After that, the license can still be renewed at the returning customer discount.

To renew, go to the renewal page and enter your current license key. You will receive a new key that extends your updates and support for an additional year.

Permanent vs Subscription: What’s the Difference?

A permanent license requires a one-time payment. You own the version you purchased forever, and your first year of software updates and customer support is included. Renewing your updates and support after the first year is completely optional, and you can choose to extend them one year at a time.

A subscription requires a recurring annual payment. A subscription license stops working entirely after your paid year ends, meaning you must keep renewing your subscription to continue using the software.

Please note that a subscription cannot be converted into a permanent license. If you decide you want a permanent license, you will need to purchase it separately.

Do I Need a New License Key?

Yes, every purchase, renewal, or upgrade provides you with a new license key. To activate it, simply enter the key directly inside the app: open Help → Registration… and paste the new key from your confirmation email.

The App Keeps Asking Me to Renew

If the app keeps asking you to renew after you have already paid, your new license key has not been entered yet. To resolve this, locate your key in your renewal confirmation email or look it up directly in your Appsforlife Account.

Then, enter it inside the app by opening Help → Registration… and pasting the new key.
