Boxshot System Requirements

Boxshot runs on Windows and macOS. Below are the requirements for the operating system, hardware, and internet access.

Memory Usage

Boxshot loads all artwork into RAM for fast rendering. To estimate how much memory a scene needs, consider that each image pixel consumes 16 bytes (4 channels at 4 bytes each): a 1000×1000 image takes about 16 MB, and a 4000×4000 image takes about 256 MB. Because objects often use multiple texture maps and scenes contain many of them, memory usage adds up quickly. Add up the uncompressed size of all scene textures plus the final output render resolution to estimate the total memory footprint.

GPU Rendering

Production rendering runs on the CPU by default, but Boxshot also supports optional GPU-accelerated rendering using Metal on macOS and DirectX 12 on Windows.

GPU rendering requires hardware-accelerated raytracing support:

Internet Access

An internet connection is required to activate the license and check for updates. If a firewall, proxy, or antivirus blocks the connection, see Firewall and Network Problems.
